IGNOU Launches MBA in Agribusiness Management to Support Indian Agribusiness Sector, Applications Open

A press release issued by IGNOU highlighted the importance of agriculture and stated that it is the backbone of the national economy in providing livelihoods and food security to the country’s ever-growing population.

According to IGNOU, the basis of the MBAABM program is the fact that despite significant growth in the agricultural sector, there is a need to develop management competencies in the farming community and allied stakeholders involved in backward and forward agricultural activities.

Moreover, the communication indicates that the challenge is to meet the requirements of agribusiness specialists and easy availability of management courses for stakeholders related to agriculture and related sectors.

To meet this need, the MBAABM program aims to educate business specialists who will be able to profitably manage agricultural enterprises and agricultural industries, the release reads.

The release further added that the MBAABM program will develop managerial skills and provide needs-based education, enhancing productivity and generating greater livelihoods and profitability in the agricultural sector to improve the socio-economic conditions of those engaged in agribusinesses.

According to IGNOU, the MBAABM program aims to generate competent business professionals in agriculture, food, rural and allied sectors. It also aims to equip specialists with specific managerial skills, develop expertise in managing the techno-commercial aspects of agribusiness, and impart the knowledge necessary to effectively address national development plans, agricultural policy and global trade.

MBAABM targets a diverse group of participants, including fresh graduates, progressive farmers and agricultural advisory staff, and serves tradespeople, intermediaries, technicians and managers in agricultural industries and agricultural input and output businesses.

Professionals from NGOs, cooperatives, FPOs, SHGs, corporate entities and financial and marketing organizations will also benefit, IGNOU said in a press release.

Features of the MBAABM program:

  • Equipping students with a wide range of management and agribusiness skills.
  • Focus on agribusiness management and policy, project management, commodity trading, production and supply chain management, and more.
  • Provide detailed information on management aspects of agricultural operations, including horticultural production, post-harvest management, livestock and farm equipment.

  • The MBAABM program lasts 2 years and can be completed in a maximum of 4 years.
