Two men detained with more than 104 kg of firecrackers

Two men were arrested and over 104 kilograms of firecrackers were seized from their possession in Sultan Puri, outside Delhi.

According to police, on Tuesday, a police team received a tip-off that a man was carrying firecrackers concealed under food items on Budh Bazar road in Sultan Puri area.

DCP Outer Delhi Sachin Sharma said, “On Sunday, a case under sections 288 (negligent driving with regard to explosive substance) of the NBS and Explosives Act 9-B was registered at the police station by Sultan Puri. A total of 104,200 kg of banned firecrackers were recovered, along with a motorcycle used to commit a crime.

Based on the information, the team intercepted a motorcycle and apprehended the 24-year-old driver, Mohammad Aakib. “Around 12:15 p.m., they spotted a suspect riding a motorcycle with registration number DL 11S C 8798. Acting on the information, the team intercepted the motorcycle and apprehended the biker.

On inspection of a white plastic bag on the motorcycle, it was found to contain food items like rusk, fan and matthi, under which 10,300 kg of banned firecrackers were concealed. , added the DCP.

During interrogation, Aakib revealed that he had obtained the firecrackers from a warehouse owned by 46-year-old Talib Yusuf.

“Based on this information, the police team conducted a raid at B-709, Aman Vihar, Rohini, and apprehended Talib Yusuf based on Aakib’s statement. In its warehouse, 93,900 kg of banned firecrackers were seized,” the official said.

He added that the two suspects confessed to trying to sell the firecrackers during the festive period for quick financial gain.
