BN is developing a strategy to ensure victory for the unity government’s candidate in the Sg Bakapa polls – Zambry

KUALA TERENGGANU (June 15): Barisan Nasional (BN) will develop a strategy to help the unity government candidate win back the state seat of Sungai Bakap in the July 6 by-election.

BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir expressed confidence that the unity government has a good chance of winning since PAS only won the August state elections with a majority of 1,563 votes.

“We have to work in an organized way and with a good strategy. Insya-Allah, we have a good chance (of winning).

“We held our first meeting last week, chaired by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), and it focused on Sungai Bakap (by-election). All components (parties) in the government have committed to attend the meeting to help the candidate,” he told reporters after officiating the Terengganu State BN Convention here on Saturday.

On Wednesday (June 12), Aminuddin Baki Institute (Northern Division) director Dr Joohari Ariffin of PKR was announced as the unity government’s candidate in the Sungai Bakap State by-election.

The Election Commission has set the Sungai Bakap by-election date for July 6 and nominations for June 22. Early voting will take place on July 2.

The position of Sungai Bakap became vacant following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 from gastritis.

In another development, Zambry urged the BN in all states to take proactive steps to explain the policies and actions of the unity government through various media outlets to avoid negative sentiments among the people.

“We need to provide feedback and make it clear that the measures taken by the government on some issues are driven by the government’s thinking about the consequences in the future and we need to deal with that initial reaction.

“So I see this as the approach that Terengganu BN is taking, which is that we know the feelings that exist, so we need to work together to resolve them,” he said.
