India-Canada Row LIVE Updates: “Such things never happened, it started under BJP government,” says Cong

Live updates from India and Canada: Tensions between India and Canada escalated on Monday after the Foreign Ministry strongly rejected the “diplomatic communication” it received from Canada last week. The communication was linked to the investigation into the murder of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil.

India withdrew its high commissioner to Canada and Canadian police released details of the alleged link between Indian government “agents” and the assassination of Khalistani leader Nijjar.

The Canadian Police (RCMP) also released a statement on October 14 on “violent criminal activities occurring in Canada with links to Indian government agents” and addressed four major issues: “Violent extremism affecting both countries (India and Canada); links Government of India (GOI) agents to homicides and violence; the use of organized crime to create a perception of a dangerous environment targeting the South Asian community in Canada and interference in democratic processes. »

According to the MEA, Canada’s “diplomatic communication” suggested “that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are ‘persons of interest’ in a matter related to an investigation in that country.” He added: “The Indian government strongly rejects these absurd imputations and attributes them to the political agenda of the Trudeau government, centered on vote bank politics. »

Following this, the MEA summoned Canadian charge d’affaires Stewart Wheeler in the evening and informed him “that the baseless targeting of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada was completely unacceptable.” India said the government had decided to withdraw the High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials.
