Iran will soon launch an 1,800 MW solar panel factory

TEHRAN – An 1,800-MW solar panel production line will be opened in Iran in the near future, an energy expert told IRNA on Saturday.

According to Sima Ghafari, the operation of the mentioned factory will increase Iran’s solar panel production capacity to 2,300 MW per year.

The official noted that using the above-mentioned power, it will be possible to establish photovoltaic farms for 23,000 square meters each year. ha of land.

She estimated the value of solar panels that will be produced in the country within a year at $1.3 billion.

“Iranian solar panels are manufactured with the highest quality and efficiency,” she emphasized.

The Iranian Ministry of Energy has put on the agenda to increase the capacity of the country’s renewable power plants by 10,000 MW by the end of the term of the current government administration (August 2025).

Considering that when the current government took office in August 2021, the renewable energy generation capacity in the country was around 8.00 MW, the mentioned increase in renewable capacity would represent a 13-fold increase.

In January 2022, the Ministry of Energy and some of the country’s private contractors signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to cooperate in the construction of new renewable power plants across Iran.

Renewable energy sources, including hydropower, account for almost seven percent of the country’s total energy production, compared with natural gas’s 90 percent share.
