The Ekosin commune rejects the nomination of a new monarch

Elders of the ruling house of Nyanbilolu in Ekosin in Odo-otin Local Government Area of Osun State have drawn the attention of the state government to the appointment of one Kazali Olagunju as the new monarch of Ekosin, saying he is not from a royal house and does not belong to any ruling house in the town .

Nyanbilolu’s ruling house, which made this known at a press conference held at the NUJ Osun State Press Center in Osogbo on Friday, rejected his nomination as the monarch of the community and accused the state government of correcting all wrongs in the appointment, which it described as an illegal act.

Addressing journalists on behalf of other members of the ruling house in the community, Prince Kayode Asa disowned Olagunju, saying he is not from any royal family, including their own.

On behalf of the ruling houses, Prince Kayode Asa rejected the nomination of Kazali Olagunju as Akosin, noting that he was not a member of any ruling house in the city.

According to Asa, “Following the death of Oba Samson Babatunde Onaolapo, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs wrote to the Odo-Otin Local Government to begin the process of filling the vacant seat in line with the recorded 1956 declaration of the chief of our community.

“The Nyanbilolu family was contacted to fill the seat and the family received a letter asking them to introduce the prince. Shortly after we started the process and presented the Crown Prince, we heard that the Kingmakers led by Ojomu of Ekosin were trying to install Akosin of Ekosin Kazali Olagunju who hails from Adio Compound.

“We have appealed to the court, the case is still pending. On February 1, 2024, we protested in front of the Osun State Government House to register our grievances. However, government representatives told us that they had not chosen any monarch for our city and that the matter would be resolved only after the ongoing court case.

“We have also not seen the report of any meeting of the State Executive Council where the ratification of Kazali Olagunju as Akosina of Ekosina was made as we know that no such meeting was held last week.

“The ruling houses in Ekosin strongly reject the overnight nomination of Kazali Olagunju as Akosin because he is not a member of any ruling house in Ekosin.”

The ruling houses, while calling for the withdrawal of personnel from Olagunju, urged the state government to respect the administration of justice and allow the ongoing judicial process to be completed.
