Design and features

Tozo Golden X1 are in-ear headphones with noise-cancelling function. You can check out the full manual here or the quick start guide to check out all the features. Tozo Golden X1 are equipped with six tips (XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL) to ensure a perfect fit.

The charging case is small and charges via a USB-C cable and supports wireless charging. When you open the case, the LED numeric display shows the case’s charge percentage, and four bars indicate the power level of each earbud. In addition, there is a light at the front that will be white when above 20%, and if lower, it will turn red, which indicates glace condition.

Tozo Golden X1 connects very quickly. There is a beep or beep to indicate that they are paired, but I usually miss them before I connect them, and my music is already playing if my music app was still open.

Assembly, installation and configuration

Using the quick start guide, I was able to set them up easily. I already had the Tozo app installed on my phone using Tozo Open Buds, so once I connected it to my phone, I opened the app and added the Golden X1.

Interestingly, there was a hearing test that consisted of the same beeps as a closed-cabin hearing test, if you’ve ever done one. Then, if you select the Eartune function, Tozo Golden X1s will compensate for the audio signal based on your hearing limitations. I have some mid- to high-frequency hearing loss based on reliable medical testing, so the result was quite accurate.

Efficiency

Tozo Golden X1 in-ear headphones are certified by TUV Rheinland confirming noise reduction by 42 dB. They are perfect for blocking out the world when you want. I definitely plan to use them on my next flight. They last 8 hours on a single charge and 32 hours with the charging case.

There are six types of noise reduction modes. One tap on the left earbud will quickly switch between active noise cancellation and transparency mode, which will amplify outside sounds so you can talk and hear everything as if you had super hearing. You can also select Normal Mode in the app to turn off noise cancellation for the longest battery life. The last selected mode remains active until it is changed. There are also 16 types of EQ sound modes, so you can customize the sound to suit your needs.

If you prefer, you can also use each earphone individually. I like that you can customize touch controls for each page, but you’re limited to the double-click and long-press functions on the left bud. A single left click switches noise reduction from active mode to transparent mode and back again. It provides a silent chime when you switch, but it doesn’t make a voice prompt, so you might forget which one it’s in. However, triple-clicking will disable ANC in normal mode and display the message “ANC disabled”, which is cool. One click will return it to transparent mode.

Phone calls were clear on both ends, and the answer and hang up controls worked flawlessly. The right earbud allows you to customize click, double click and long press functions. Triple click is your selected voice assistant.

Overall, I was very impressed with the sound quality. The Golden X1s connect to my phone almost instantly, and when I put them back in the case, they automatically disconnect. I found the app very intuitive and easy to use, with customizable features.

What I like about Tozo Golden X1

  • Super small case with wireless charging
  • Great sound with lots of customization options

What needs to be improved?

  • Full touch customization so I can do one click to increase volume and long press to skip to previous/next track
