Anambra State Government Supports Capacity Building for Creative Industries in Awka – Heartbeat Of The East

The Anambra State Government and its development partners have embarked on a two-day workshop to develop a strategic work plan for an effective, efficient and robust creative industry in the state.

The event tagged “Consultative Mapping of Anambra State Creative Economy Value Chain” is underway in Awka.

In it, representatives of ministries, departments and agencies discuss how to map different sectors of the creative economy, such as film and video, fashion design and modeling, music production and distribution, and content creation.

Declaring the conference open, the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, stated that the conference would assist the state government in strategically supporting all sectors to fully realize each of their potentials.

According to Mr. Onyenji, the event, which brings together participants from the government and private sectors under one roof, will create a foundation for engagement and decisions on government expectations to ensure full representation of the creative sector in Anambra.

He appreciated the partnership with Technology for Social Change and Development, Tech4Dev and assured the government’s continued partnership to ensure full implementation of the message made during the conference.

The vision of Senior Researcher and Policy Manager at Tech4Dev, Mr. Immanuel Umukoro, is to equip Africans with skills that foster economic prosperity, financial freedom and sustainable development in the digital technology space.

Umukoro explained that it is their responsibility to ensure that while building people’s capacity to use technology to improve their lives, they also ensure that appropriate policies are in place to enable businesses to thrive.

In a paper presentation, the head of research and policy at Tech4Dev. Miss Victoria Oletu said the agency strives to create opportunities and platforms to enable people to access decent work and entrepreneurship through empowering digital skills.

Conference participants were divided into teams who were expected to identify factors and solutions to mitigate issues in capacity building and talent development, infrastructure and technology, financing and incentives, and collaboration among MDAs in the state, and set the stage for fruitful engagement with the private sector, today the second conference day.
