DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (NEWSnet/AP) — The United States military has launched attacks on radar facilities operated by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, authorities said Saturday.

According to Central Command, US strikes destroyed seven radar units in Houthi-controlled territory.

“These radars allow the Houthis to target maritime vessels and threaten commercial vessels,” Central Command said.

The United States also destroyed two bomb-laden drones in the Red Sea and a drone launched by the Houthis.

Central Command said one merchant seaman from the Liberian-flagged aircraft carrier Tutor remained missing after the June 12 attack. Crew members abandoned the ship and were rescued by the USS Philippine Sea and partner forces, Central Command said. The Tutor remains in the Red Sea and slowly takes on water.

The missing sailor is a Filipino, according to the state-run Philippine News Agency, citing Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
