The Conshohocken municipal council will consider changing the regulations regarding food trucks

Conshohocken Borough Council’s June 18 agenda includes a proposed ordinance that the council will consider whether to advertise. Proposed regulations must be announced before a vote to accept or reject them.

The current ordinance limits food trucks to four specially planned districts, which include the riverfront and SORA West, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. The proposed changes would remove Specialty Planned District 4 (or SORA West) from the permissible area for food truck operation. The second big change is that if the event is approved by council vote, regulations regarding times and locations will no longer apply.

The regulations were originally adopted in 2013. The language of the original regulation referred to planned special districts at all, without mentioning the first, second and third districts. So when the fourth district was created in 2017, it was placed under regulation due to a lack of transparency.

During the June 5 meeting, when the proposed changes were first discussed, borough legal counsel Michael Peters explained that this was the first time regulations had been introduced prohibiting food trucks from entering the busiest part of the borough. As you may remember, there was a hot dog cart operating in downtown Conshohocken for a short time.

The change may have been caused by a food truck that recently parked along West 1st Avenue on the Cencora Street side (pictured at top). This would fall within the fourth specialist district.
