The industrial production index fell by 3.1 percent in April

The National Planning Council issued a press release regarding the industrial production index for April 2024, calculated on the basis of 2018, showing a decline of 3.1%. compared to the previous month (March 2024). This indicator reflects an increase in the detailed development of the various sectors of the industrial economy that constitute it, with different relative weights, e.g. “Mining and quarrying” 82.46%, “Industrial processing” 15.85%, “Supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning ” 1.16%, and “Water supply” 0.53%. It is also a short-term quantitative indicator that measures changes in the production volume of a selected basket of industrial products in a given period in relation to the production volume in a selected period called the base period, and examines and analyzes the economic level of the country and the growth of individual industrial sectors in the details of the economy index. The industrial production index (IPI) in April 2024 reached 100.1 points, which means a decline of 3.1%. compared to the previous month (April 2024) and decreased by 5.9%. compared to the same month in 2023. The “Mining” sector index showed a decrease of 3.3%. compared to the previous month (March 2024), due to the decrease in the volume of “crude oil”, “crude oil and natural gas” with the same share and “Other mining and quarrying” decreased by 5.7%. Compared to the same month of the previous year (April 2023), the Mining IPI decreased by 6.1%. the volumes of “crude oil and natural gas” decreased by the same percentage, and “Other mining and quarrying” decreased by 5.5%. Charts (2) show trends in the monthly IPI in the mining sector in the period from April 2023 to April 2024. The “Processing” sector index showed a decline of 2.5%. compared to the previous month (March 2024). Groups showed a decline, including: : “Production of cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 7.4%, then “Production of basic metals” by 6.4%, “Printing and reproduction of recorded media” by 5.6%, “Production of food products” by 3.0 percent and “Production of chemicals and chemical products” by 1.8 percent. while an increase was recorded in the items “Production of beverages” by 4.2% and “Production of refined petroleum products” by 1.2%. and “Production of rubber and plastic products” by 0.3 percent. However, on an annual basis, compared to April 2023, there was a decrease of 5.0 percent, due to a decrease in the item “Production of basic metals” by 22.5 percent, followed by “Printing and reproduction of recorded media”. By 9.1 percent “Production of cement and other products from non-metallic minerals” by 4.2 percent, “Production of refined petroleum products” by 2.0 percent, “Production of chemicals and chemical products” by 1.6 percent, “Production of food products” by 1.3 percent, “Production of rubber and plastic products” by 0.3 percent, while an increase was recorded in the “Production of beverages” category by 1.2 percent. The “Energy, Gas, Supply” industry index showed a decline of 2.8%, recorded in “Electricity” production between April 2024 and the previous month (March 2024). Compared to the same month (April 2023), there was a decrease of 11.2%. However, the “Water supply” indicator showed a decrease of 2.3%. in the production of “Woda” between April 2024 and the previous month (March) 2024). Compared to the same month (April 2023), there was a decrease of 1.1%.
