Olmos Park police say there is a ‘good chance of finding Suzanne’ at a dump

UPDATE | Investigators scour landfill as search for Suzanne Simpson enters ninth day

SAN ANTONIO – The search for Suzanne Simpson, a missing Olmos Park woman, is in its eighth day. While some are losing hope, the authorities continue to do everything possible to find her.

Abel Pena, retired FBI special agent and executive director of Project Absentis, said the first 48 hours of any investigation are crucial. He adds that investigators will then broaden their search.

Monday’s efforts led crews to a landfill in southeast Bexar County.

“The most important thing will be the digital evidence,” Pena said. “If they find his cell phone there, that would be a great find. From there, they can probably put together a better timeline.”

Olmos Park police said in a statement that “we are confident there is a good chance of finding Suzanne at this location.”

They go on to say that “the Simpson family has been very helpful and supportive, although they are the ones who need support and understanding at this time.” They said they informed the Simpson family of the status of the investigation and their intention to search the dump after saying “evidence, statements and a robust police investigation led us there.”

Barton Simpson released a statement on Facebook Tuesday morning about the ongoing search.

“The Olmos Park Police Department released the statement below last night. We are very grateful for the endless and grueling hours they spent uncovering solid information. We are comforted that they may be close to determining what happened to Suzanne We are grateful to Chief Villegas, the Olmos Park Police Department, Ranger Jessie Perez and the Texas Rangers, as well as all law enforcement agencies. who help law enforcement for their impeccable professionalism.

“It’s all just coupled together to figure out where they’re going to look again,” Pena explained. “If it takes them to a landfill, they may be looking for a piece of evidence, and from there they can bring in a forensic team to look for things.”

The 51-year-old’s family is not sure if they will find her alive. At a vigil on Sunday, Suzanne’s mother said she would have heard from her by now. But as the search enters its second week, police continue to dig.

Police say a neighbor reported seeing Suzanne and her husband, Brad, arguing and physically fighting from her window. Shortly afterward, he reportedly heard two or three screams coming from a wooded area near the Simpson home. This was the first area the police began to search.

With no further updates in this case, Pena reminds Suzanne’s loved ones not to throw in the towel on finding answers just yet.

“Law enforcement is conducting a thorough investigation to try to find Ms. Simpson and not give up hope,” he said. “Stay informed and don’t lose hope.”
