PLI visas to other MTF sectors in final stage

New Delhi: After formulating a standard operating procedure (SOP) to streamline visa approvals for Chinese professionals whose expertise is required from suppliers under the PLI scheme, the government is in the final stages of introducing similar processes in other manufacturing units, the official said.

The move assumes significance as some domestic manufacturing companies have raised concerns about delays in obtaining visas for Chinese technicians, who are needed for work such as installing or repairing certain machinery, as well as training workers in India.

“Most of the PLI (Production Linked Incentive Scheme) visas have been sorted out. Also for general production, we are trying to create a more streamlined SOP, together with the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is in its final stages. We hope to sort this out. We have undertaken many sensitization activities,” the official said. The implementation of standard operating procedures does not require any approval from the Cabinet as it is an internal process aimed at relaxing norms regarding visa applications submitted by Chinese professionals.
