Short-term rentals may involve new regulations, taxes resulting from a law recently passed by the state legislature | Iconic stories

ALBANY — Short-term rental properties will be monitored by New York state, and platforms will be required to collect occupancy and sales taxes on reservations the same way they would for a hotel stay, under a bill just approved by the state Legislature last week.

It’s not yet law and Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul could veto it or significantly change it, but the current bill requires property owners who provide short-term rentals of some or all of their units, as well as platforms that promote and book those units to guests, by registering their rentals on country and providing regular updates on their use.
