IAS Ashima Brar takes over the leadership of Karnal district, prioritizing key sectors

Chandigarh: In a significant administrative move, the Haryana government has selected Ashima Brar, a 2004 batch IAS officer, to administer Karnal district, in addition to her current duties.

Brar, who is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister and Director General, Secretary for Strengthening Social Justice, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Social Welfare and Antiodaya Department (SEWA), will now review projects in Karnal worth over Rs. 25 crores.

In her new position, Ashima will be responsible for thoroughly assessing crime rates, particularly serious crimes, vigilance issues under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and the effectiveness of service delivery mechanisms under the Right to Service Act. It will also assess the operational characteristics of the health, education and social sectors and address issues facing the District Commissioner of Excise and Taxation in relation to GST and other levies.
