Quest gets its first third-party input device thanks to Logitech

Logitech today announced the XR Stylus, Meta Quest’s first motion-enabled peripheral designed for creators working in both 2D and 3D media.

The spatially tracked stylus, called Logitech MX Ink, supports Quest 2 and Quest 3, as well as “the headsets of the future,” Logitech says. The company further confirmed that it will not support Quest Pro.

Logitech MX Ink is said to have a “natural pen-like appearance and a pressure-sensitive tip,” allowing users to create, annotate and navigate in XR environments. The device allows the user to pair with Quest and use it interchangeably with Quest controllers, making it the first time a Meta headset can support more than two paired controllers at the same time.

Launching in September, the MX Ink will feature a dedicated stylus customization page in the updated Meta Settings user interface, allowing users to adjust nib and main button pressure curves, initial actuation force, and double-tap time.

For starters, the MX Link supports haptic feedback and is spatially tracked at 6DOF resolution, boasting “low latency and high accuracy” that is said to have similar tracking performance to the Quest controllers themselves.

There’s a charging base included to keep your MX Ink charged and ready, but it also has a dedicated USB-C port so you can just take the stylus on the go. It also includes a pair of interchangeable nibs that allow the user to choose between a very fine or one larger nib.

The company has listed a number of compatible Quest apps that include Adobe Substance Modeler, Gravity Sketch, PaintingVR, Arkio, Get involved, OpenBrush, GestureVR, ShapesXR, AND Elucis by RealizeMedical.

Logitech MX Ink is expected to be available at the end of September and will be priced at $130. The product page is not live yet, but should be available closer to Meta Connect 2024, which will take place on September 25-26.
