Minister of Skills Development and Apparel Skills Council discuss industry gap analysis and achievements

New Delhi, June 17 (KNN) At a recent high-level meeting, Chairman of the Apparel and Home Furnishings Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), A. Sakthivel, met the newly appointed Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary.

The discussion focused on the current status and comprehensive gap analysis of the apparel, beauty and home furnishings sector in India.

Sakthivel, a Padma Shri awardee, presented the achievements of AMHSSC under the leadership of the Ministry.

Notable achievements include the certification of over 10,000 trainers and 4,600 assessors, and the training of approximately 2 million candidates through short-term training (STT) programs and 332,000 through recognition of prior learning (RPL) programs.

An important feature is that 93 percent of certified candidates are women, reflecting the Council’s emphasis on gender inclusivity.

AMHSSC has also established five centers of excellence in key locations across India: Noida, Tirupur, Kolkata, Guwahati and Coimbatore.

The purpose of these centers is to provide advanced training and educational resources to meet the changing demands of the apparel and fashion industry. Sakthivel expressed his intention to expand this network to reach more remote areas.

“Our centers of excellence and training programs are poised to transform lives and positively shape the future of the apparel and fashion industry,” Sakthivel said during the meeting.

He added that the Council is committed to ensuring broad access to skills development opportunities.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to advancing skills development initiatives in the sector.

Their joint efforts aim to fill existing skills gaps, promote sustainable growth and increase the industry’s competitiveness on a global scale.

The dialogue between the Ministry and the Sector Skills Council highlights the government’s focus on supporting a skilled workforce in one of India’s most important job-generating sectors.
