Penspen announces strategic partnership with Pipelinelogic

Penspen, a leading global energy consulting firm committed to improving access to sustainable energy for communities around the world, announced a strategic partnership with asset integrity services specialist PipeLogic to support pipeline operators in North America in improving their management programs integrity and preparation for the energy transition, while complying with existing and future regulatory requirements – including the gas Mega Rule.

Penspen announces strategic partnership with Pipelinelogic

Penspen, with regional headquarters in Houston, Texas, is a global energy consulting firm with more than 1,100 employees operating in key regions around the world. The company has over 70 years of experience and specializes in consulting, design and engineering solutions throughout the entire energy project lifecycle.

Meanwhile, Colorado-based Pipelinelogic specializes in the design, implementation and optimization of pipeline integrity management programs, providing high-quality data with practical tools, in-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance issues and a deep understanding of integrity engineering.

Both companies aim to revolutionize the pipeline integrity management landscape in North America.

Brandon Alexander, Penspen director for North America, said: “The Penspen and Pipelogic partnership combines global expertise and local supply to provide industry-leading asset integrity services that leverage digital pipeline management solutions to support operators in preparing for upcoming enforcement key industry regulations.”

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) introduced a gas mega rule in 2020 that aims to improve pipeline safety and reduce the frequency of natural gas pipeline failures. With 100% compliance to be achieved by 2035, operators must understand the impact of these regulations on their operations and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance.

Brian Ellis, president of Pipelogic, commented: “Complying with industry regulations is not only a regulatory and legal requirement, but also a moral obligation for pipeline operators to maintain the social contract to safely operate the pipelines that deliver energy to communities around the world every day.

“Operators in North America face a 2035 Mega Rule compliance deadline. The strategic partnership between Penspen and Pipelogic will provide these operators with the pipeline integrity management solutions required to ensure the integrity and safety of their onshore steel transmission pipelines, mitigating risk and maintaining regulatory compliance.”

The digital platform provides real-time data to enable decision-making and risk mitigation

The Mega Rule states that operators must have traceable, verifiable and complete pipeline documentation (TVC), confirm the pipeline’s maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP), and have plans to regularly assess moderate impact areas (MCAs).

By integrating material data, live inspection results, weld and seam type information, along with geographic data, Penspen’s THEIA digital pipeline integrity management system streamlines compliance processes, increases analytical capabilities, and ensures the safety and reliability of transmission pipelines.

Alexander added: “Managing massive amounts of regulatory compliance data, conducting regular inspections, and ensuring timely reporting further complicates compliance efforts. Failure to comply with regulations may result in serious consequences, including financial penalties, legal liability and loss of reputation.

“THEIA centralizes critical asset information in one powerful tool, providing operators with real-time data to effectively mitigate risk, prevent regulatory fines, and maintain the integrity of pipeline assets in compliance with regulatory standards.”

Ellis added: “Our combined capabilities, integrating complex engineering principles with innovative digital solutions, enable Penspen and Pipelogic to deliver superior, end-to-end pipeline integrity management solutions to our valued customers across North America.”
