FCCPC is organizing a sensitization meeting on food safety with key stakeholders

The federal government has launched a sensitization program to warn Nigerians about the dangers of food adulteration, including products such as palm oil, fruits, meat and grains.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) launched the initiative in Abuja, with the executive vice-chairman of the agency stressing that it will continuously monitor and penalize violators to ensure food safety.

Food fraud in Nigeria is currently a serious problem threatening food security, threatening public health and undermining consumer confidence.

From contaminated milk to poor grains and spices, the entry of substandard and hazardous substances into the food supply chain has far-reaching consequences.

The Federal Commission for Competition and Consumer Protection – the agency entrusted with the key mandate of ensuring food safety for consumers – has now convened a sensitization meeting with key stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by representatives of health care, food and drug agencies, and traders.

Among the events commemorating this important day, a lecture by the Ministry of Health revealed surprising discoveries about the short- and long-term consequences of food fraud.
