Search for crew underway after Navy plane crashes east of Mount Rainier

A Navy plane crashed just east of Mount Rainier during a “routine training flight” Tuesday afternoon.

At 3:23 p.m., Naval Air Station Whidbey Island said a NavyEA-18G Growler aircraft crashed east of Mount Rainier during what was supposed to be a routine training flight.

NASWI continued to note that multiple search and rescue efforts were initiated from the naval air station to locate the crew and examine the crash site.

“As of 7 p.m. on October 15, the status of both crew members remains unknown,” NASWI wrote in a press release. “The cause of the accident remains under investigation.”

NASWI said more information about the accident would be released as it became available.
