Las Vegas City Council to consider new pet store regulations

The Las Vegas City Council is expected to deliberate on two proposed ordinances regarding the sale and ownership of pet stores.

The first ordinance aims to limit the number of animals a pet store or breeder can sell to a single person. It also proposes restrictions on the number of guinea pigs that can be housed in an area at one time.

The second ordinance seeks to increase the fine for abandoning a pet to $1,000.

Officials said the first ordinance could help reduce the number of cases of animal hoarding.

Earlier this year, the Clark County prosecutor reported a case involving 16 dead dogs found in a home and hotel room owned by a local couple, as well as 51 dead guinea pigs and rabbits.

Carolyn Luke and Timothy Miller now face several charges in connection with this case.
