The Dominican beer industry pumps 92,483 million pesos into the economy

Santo Domingo.- According to the latest study published by the consulting company DASA, the beer industry in the Dominican Republic has made a significant contribution to the country’s economy. In 2022, the industry generated a total of 92,483 million pesos, a significant multiplier for production chains, and created over 50,000 jobs.

The report highlights that the beer industry has a direct impact on the economy, generating over 3,000 direct and almost 48,000 indirect jobs through its impact on the procurement of goods and services throughout the value chain. Additionally, for every direct job in the brewing industry, 16 additional jobs are created as a result of the purchase of local goods and services.

In terms of employment, the study estimates that the sector pays a total of 13,748 million pesos to workers annually. Moreover, the industry generates significant tax contributions to the government, estimated to be 44,000 million pesos in 2022.

The beer industry impacts a variety of manufacturing sectors including, but not limited to, cardboard and paper production, glass bottling, packaging materials, energy and fuels, entertainment and advertising, transportation and logistics, machinery and equipment maintenance services. In addition, it increases sales in retail stores, where grocery stores record 28-33% of their sales from beer sales.

The study also highlighted that purchases of domestic goods and services in this sector exceed 14,000 million pesos annually, of which 35% goes to manufacturing and the rest to services. Moreover, as of 2019, beer exports reached $65 million.

Looking ahead, the report projects that the Dominican economy will grow at 5.4% by the end of 2024, making it one of the most dynamic economies in the region. These positive prospects create a favorable environment for business development and growth.

Overall, the Dominican Republic’s beer industry plays a key role in driving economic growth and creating jobs, making it an important contributor to the country’s economic prosperity.
