Kochi: The National Institute of Oceanography (INCOIS) has issued a warning that there is a possibility of a ‘Kallakkadal’ phenomenon over the Kerala coast until 11:30 p.m. today (10/16/2024). There is a risk of flooding and coastal erosion in low-lying areas.

ICOIS said special vigilance should be required in the following regions.

    It is possible that the “Kallakkadal” phenomenon will persist until 11:30 p.m. today (16/10/2024).

    Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to exercise extreme caution:

    • Due to the likelihood of severe sea disturbances, it is advisable to stay away from dangerous areas in accordance with instructions from the authorities.
  • Small boats and vessels should not be launched at this time.
  • It is dangerous to send fishing boats into the sea during phases when coastal phenomena and high waves are expected.
  • All activities, including beach-based tourism, should be completely avoided until the INCOIS warning is lifted.
  • Fishing vessels (boats, canoes, etc.) must be securely moored in the port. Maintaining a safe distance between vessels can prevent collisions.
  • All travel to beaches and recreational activities at sea should be completely avoided.
  • Due to the potential for coastal erosion, particular vigilance must be maintained.
