The UK Defense Industry Economic Delegation is keen to work with HD Hyundai in the maritime sector

On Tuesday 18 June, the UK Defense Industry Economic Delegation visited HD Hyundai’s Global Research and Development Center (GRC) to review HD Hyundai’s capabilities in the maritime sector and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The British delegation, which visited Korea to attend the Korea-UK Defense Industry and Logistics Committee, included senior officials from the UK Department of Defense and Security Exports (UKDSE) within the Department for Business and Trade, as well as representatives of leading British companies from the defense industry. In total, approximately 30 delegation members visited HD Hyundai’s Global Research and Development Center (GRC) in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

The UK economic delegation included over 10 senior officials from UKDSE, as well as senior executives from some of the world’s largest defense companies such as BAE Systems, Thales UK, Atlas UK and Leonardo UK.

During the two-hour visit, HD Hyundai presented its capabilities and advanced technologies in the maritime sector to the delegation and discussed potential future cooperation.

Additionally, the delegation received information about the digital transformation (DT) sector of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Currently, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is the leader in Korean warship exports. Earlier this morning, at its headquarters in Ulsan, HD Hyundai held the launching ceremony of “BRP Miguel Malvar”, the first 3,200-ton corvette for the Philippine Navy, attended by the Secretary of Defense of the Philippines and senior military officials. In April, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a KRW 640.6 billion ($463.5 million) contract with the Peruvian Navy to jointly produce warships with SIMA, the Peruvian state-owned shipyard leading Korean warship exports.

In addition, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries celebrated the first on-time delivery of a 3,000-ton class submarine by holding a contract signing ceremony for the delivery of the “ROKS Shin Chae-ho” submarine. Government representatives from nine countries around the world attended the event and showcased the excellence of Korean warships, including submarines, Aegis destroyers and frigates.
