Apple is releasing Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 along with Final Cut Pro 10.8 for Mac

Apple today released long-awaited updates to Final Cut Pro for iPad and Final Cut Pro for Mac. The iPad version, now called Final Cut Pro for iPad 2, takes full advantage of the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip. Apple notes that it enables up to 2x faster rendering and supports up to 4x more ProRes RAW streams than the iPad M1 Pro.

The highlight of the Final Cut Pro for iPad update is the new Live Multicam feature, which allows users to wirelessly connect and view images from up to four cameras simultaneously, all in one place. Cameras can be a combination of iPhone and iPad devices, and users can get a director’s view from each camera or manually set control settings using the all-new Final Cut Camera app, Apple’s professional camera app that also launched today.

Final Cut Camera supports the new Live Multicam feature, but can also be used as a standalone application. Includes professional areas such as manual focus, shutter speed, ISO, maximum focus, zebras, grid overlays, audio level monitoring and more.

If you are more interested in editing, there is one important new feature that I have been waiting for for a long time: external drive support! And if you own an Apple Pencil Pro, you’ll be happy to know that the update allows you to roll, which gives you more precise control over live drawing tools, and pinch to pull out brushes and settings.

There will undoubtedly be other changes and we will consider them as well. Stay tuned for more coverage of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and be sure to subscribe to 9to5mac on YouTube for more.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 requires iPadOS 17.4 or later and iPad models with an M1 chip or later.

But let’s not forget about the Mac, because Apple has also released Final Cut Pro 10.8 for Mac users. As previously announced, version 10.8 will feature new AI-powered features including: Improve light and colorAND Smooth slow motion. Apple notes that Enhance Light and Color automatically adjusts video for proper color correction, while Smooth Slo-Mo intelligently combines video frames for higher quality motion.

Version 10.8 will also certainly improve your workflow, with custom names for color corrections and video effects in the inspector coming to Final Cut Pro. Users can now search and browse for clips with missing media or effects in the timeline index. Finally, there is a text search feature on the timeline that displays relevant details such as reel, scene, camera angle, and more.

Final Cut Pro 10.8 release notes
