New red fish regulations in Louisiana effective today

Big changes for Louisiana fishermen. Here’s what you need to know before you hit the water this summer.

From June 20, 2024, new red drum sizes and daily container limits will come into force.

The new regulations are as follows:

  • Daily Creel: Daily limit of 4 fish per angler
  • Size Limit: Minimum overall length of 18 inches and maximum of 27 inches
  • Bull Reds: Keeping Red Drum above 27 inches is prohibited
  • Storage of Red Drum by captain and crew on charter or master boats during a rental cruise will be prohibited.

Charter captains and crew will still be allowed to fish during charter trips to demonstrate how to catch red drum, but will not be allowed to keep red drum within any limit on the vessel.
