The ground-mounted, grid-connected photovoltaic system, designed and built by engineering, procurement and construction company Energy Gurus, will significantly reduce the corn mill’s dependence on the traditional power grid and support the company’s sustainability and energy security goals.

“The 1 MW capacity provides GWK with significant cost savings and has a positive impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” Decentral Energy said.

“The recent power purchase agreement between Decentral Energy and GWK Farm Foods highlights the rapid and effective adoption of renewable energy solutions,” the statement said.

We are enthusiastic to partner with GWK Farm Foods to provide environmentally friendly solar energy for their Christiana corn mill. This project shows how quickly renewable energy solutions can be implemented, delivering immediate savings and environmental benefits,” said Decentral Energy Executive Director Christian Bode.

GWK Farm Foods, previously a division of GWK Group, became part of VKB Agri Processors following the merger of GWK and VKB Groups in May 2023.

“Sustainability and energy security are key to efficiency and productivity, especially in the milling environment. “This photovoltaic system represents significant progress in reducing GWK Farm Foods’ environmental impact and increasing the reliability of its electricity supply,” said Philip Labuschagne, executive director of grain processing at VKB Agri Processors.
