Several 2023-2024 BMWs recalled due to faulty brakes

BMW has issued a recall covering a wide variety of models due to potential problems with their brakes and anti-lock braking and stability control systems.

The recall affects certain X1, X5, X6, A total of 11,579 vehicles are affected in the United States.

According to the recall notice issued by NHTSA on October 2 (recall campaign number 24V739000), the vehicles affected during a previous recall campaign in February (recall campaign number 24V104000) received an integrated braking module which may not provide sufficient braking assistance. This in turn will cause the anti-lock braking and stability control systems to malfunction, increasing the risk of an accident.

Fully mechanical braking is unaffected and is still available to slow and stop the vehicle, and the electronic brake force distribution system’s emergency function also continues to assist with vehicle stability, according to the recall notice.

The cure requires dealers replacement of the integrated brake modulea service they will perform for a fee.

Owners will be notified by mail from November 22 informing them of the safety risk. Second letters will be mailed once the necessary parts are available, although the potential timeline was not included in the recall notice.

BMW said it was not aware of any injuries related to this issue.
