Japan’s Hamamatsu Photonics says Denmark is refusing to agree to the takeover of NKT Photonics

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s Hamamatsu Photonics KK said on Monday that Danish authorities had rejected a European subsidiary’s application to take over Copenhagen fiber laser maker NKT Photonics A/S from NKT A/S.

Hamamatsu Photonics announced acquisition plans last June for about 205 million euros ($226 million) to expand the application of its laser diode business based on compound semiconductor manufacturing technology. It was found that NKT Photonics lasers can be used, among others, to control state-of-the-art semiconductor devices.

“We are currently considering further action on this decision,” Hamamatsu Photonics said in a statement on Monday.

He added that authorities in Germany, Britain and the United States had approved the takeover. The Danish Business Authority found that the refusal was in line with the Danish Investment Monitoring Act.
