Amazon Fire TV device sales – top 200 million

Amazon may be laying off thousands of workers, but it still sells plenty of stuff — including streaming devices and connected TVs.

The company said sales of Fire TV streaming devices and smart TVs have surpassed 200 million units to date. Amazon, which selectively releases such statistics, previously announced a milestone of selling 150 million Fire TV devices in January 2022.

In addition to the new sales results, the e-commerce giant announces the expansion of Amazon’s TV lineup with three new sizes of the Fire TV Omni QLED series, as well as its cheapest HDTV yet, the entry-level Fire TV 2-series, which starts at $200 for the 32-inch model . Additionally, the company said it is rolling out Amazon-made TVs in three new countries: the UK, Germany and Mexico. Fire TV devices are available for purchase in over 85 countries.

Amazon said TVs are the fastest-growing segment of Fire TV’s business, although it declined to provide any sales breakdown.

“With more than 200 million streaming players and smart TVs sold worldwide, our continued focus on making TVs truly smart is being appreciated by customers around the world,” Daniel Rausch, vice president of Amazon Entertainment Devices, said in a statement and Services.

The new Fire TV 2 series is available in 32- and 40-inch sizes and designed as a second or third TV at more affordable prices, for spaces such as bedrooms and kitchens. They support HDR10, HLG (hybrid log gamma), and Dolby Digital Audio, and also include the Fire TV Alexa Voice Remote.

The Fire TV Omni QLED series will now be available in three new sizes – with 43-, 50- and 55-inch screens – in addition to 65- and 75-inch versions. The HD Omni QLED TVs support both Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive and include built-in far-field technology, allowing customers to control their TVs hands-free using Alexa voice commands. Prices for the new 43-inch models start at $449.99 and will be available May 11 at Amazon and BestBuy.com.

According to Amazon, Omni QLED smart TVs feature Fire TV Ambient Experience technology, which adds hundreds of free “gallery-quality” images to its collection of over 1,700 images. In addition to works of art from the National Gallery of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, the Ambient Experience will include works from the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Museum of Wales, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and other institutions.

Amazon’s Omni QLED TVs use occupancy sensors to detect when a person enters a room to switch to Ambient Experience mode, which allows you to quickly display information such as the time, weather, calendars and reminders; allow users to control smart devices; stream audio from services like Amazon Music and Spotify; and perform other tasks.
