Tanya Plibersek dispels concerns about the reliability of renewable energy

Minister of Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek responded to concerns about the reliability of renewable energy.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton announced the Coalition’s nuclear energy plan last week.

“We obviously need to make sure we invest in batteries and transmission lines,” Ms Plibersek told Sky News political editor Andrew Clennell.

“Gas will also play a role in the transition.

“I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say that renewables haven’t been proven yet… Tasmania, thanks to hydro, is almost 100% renewables. We have southern Australia which gets very high renewable energy rates on some days.

“But yes, you have to firm up and you have to have transmission lines as well.”
