How to build a strong future for APC by Buhari

• He encourages young people to join the party

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Abuja declared that the future of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lies in strengthened internal democracy, transparent electoral processes, pro-people policies and programs and the value of each member’s contribution to the development of the party.

During a virtual meeting with APC youths at the House of Representatives, President Buhari noted that the ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercise across the country will further ensure the party’s shared vision, grassroots ownership and participation, and inclusion of the youth.

“I was in Daura to renew my membership and I encourage you all to do the same. My belief and unwavering belief is that politics is a numbers game and political power truly belongs to the people. Websites are built from scratch.

“I imagine that we can create a party in which we will be able to conduct transparent electoral competitions, pursue citizen-friendly policies and programs, and most importantly, let the members decide who represents them, and not some leaders,” said the President.

He assured the youth that there will be more party and government policies that will take into account their interests, and a committee, consisting mainly of young people, is being prepared that will take special account of the knowledge of young people and work for their benefit.

“Young people owe this country a debt. It is our responsibility to harness their energy and creativity in every field, including health, science, education, sports and agriculture, and to introduce innovations that keep pace with the changing dynamics of the world.

“While I look forward to working more decisively with young people across the country, I emphasize to all of you that you have a major supporter in me. I offer you my full support to grow in politics, public service, entertainment, entrepreneurship and many other sectors because I know that the future we envision as a country cannot happen without our youth.

“In the coming days, I will work with the Minister of Youth Affairs, the APC National Youth Leader and others to refine a continuous and deliberate strategy on how to better drive stronger youth inclusion and participation across sectors,” Buhari said.

The president urged the youth to join the APC while thanking many people who have supported the party over the years.

“I have followed with great interest the efforts of many of you to transform our party, APC, into a strong and long-lasting platform that would sustain progressive governance in Nigeria. Taking issues affecting our party seriously is commendable and shows forward thinking.”
