Google replaces the director in charge of Search and ads

Google is making a major change in the company’s leadership. In a memo to staff released Thursday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Prabhakar Raghavan, senior vice president in charge of search, ads and other important segments, will now take on the role of chief technologist .

“Prabhakar decided it was time to take a big step forward in his own career,” Pichai writes. “After 12 years leading teams at Google, he will return to his computing roots and take on the role of Chief Technologist at Google. In this role, he will work closely with me and Google leaders to provide direction and technical leadership and develop our culture of technological excellence.

Nick Fox, who was part of Raghavan’s leadership team, will replace Raghavan as head of Google’s search, ads, location and commerce products. Fox helped launch products such as Google Fi and RCS messaging, according to Pichai.

Google is also shuffling some of its other teams. The division responsible for Google’s Gemini application, led by Sissie Hsaio, will join Google DeepMind under the leadership of Demis Hassabis. The Google Assistant team will also be part of Google’s Platforms and Devices team.
