Netflix’s Kids Mystery Box is now available on Android devices

After eight months, Netflix’s Kids Mystery Box officially launched on Android devices today. Android users around the world can now discover new kids’ TV shows and characters by clicking “Mystery Box” in the “Favorites” row at the top of the Netflix home page.

The company today updated its previous post with the May announcement, stating: “This feature is now available on Android devices to all members worldwide.”

The Mystery Box feature works similarly to the shuffle button and allows children and their caregivers to find new content in a more fun way. The contents of the mystery box change daily and include shows and characters such as Ada Twist, Iggy and Rosie, from “Ada Twist, Scientist” to the dinosaurs from “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.”

Netflix has a decent lineup of kids’ shows and movies, including popular titles like “Cocomelon,” “Gabby’s Dollhouse” and Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio,” which was just nominated for the 2023 Oscars. The streaming service also has dedicated profiles for kids, which allow parents to block specific shows and access their viewing history.

Netflix has long experimented with new ways to present its content to consumers, from personalized recommendations to screensaver promotions and even a shuffle button for a random title.

For example, the Play Something feature selects a title for the user based on their preferences. The Kids Mystery Box feature uses the same idea but is more interactive and fun for younger users. Kids can use this feature to find the next series or rewatch content they haven’t seen in a while.

The update follows a revamp of the Netflix iOS app that includes a new billboard layout, tab transitions, animations on profile screens, and more. It is unclear whether the Android app will receive the same update.
