Vlsi technology: Government policy supports the VLSI sector: Experts from IIIT-A | Allahabad News

Prayagraj: India has made significant progress in the field of very large scale integration (VLSI) technologies and systems in recent years thanks to various factors such as government policies, investment in research and development and a highly skilled workforce, experts said on Monday. VLSI is a process used to design and manufacture integrated circuits (ICs), which are electronic circuits consisting of many transistors and other components combined into a single integrated circuit. They were speaking at the inauguration of a three-week summer training program on VLSI Design (STPVD 2024) organized by the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) on Monday. Rajat Kumar Singh of IIIT-A said the country has several semiconductor labs and design houses to cater to the growing demand for integrated circuits. Moreover, collaboration between industry and academia has also facilitated knowledge transfer and technology development in this sector. KP Singh said on the occasion that one of the key factors behind the rapid progress in VLSI technology and systems in India is the government’s focus on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. “Initiatives like Make in India and Digital India campaigns have galvanized the VLSI industry by encouraging research and development activities. Moreover, the government has also introduced policies to attract foreign investment in the semiconductor industry,” he said. Prasanna K Mishra stated that this rapid progress made it possible to design chips containing over a billion transistors. Kavindra Kandpal said that the ninth edition of the summer training program was technically co-sponsored by the Chapter UP section of the IEEE Circuit and System Society.
