Now available for free on Google Play, the Blackmagic Camera app for Android includes camera controls and operating systems that allow users to achieve the same cinematic “look” seen in Hollywood feature films. Users access Blackmagic’s standard, user-friendly interface and can adjust settings such as frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO with one touch. Everything is interactive on the HUD, which shows recording status and parameters such as lens selection, frame rate, shutter angle, time code, ISO, white balance, hue, histogram and audio levels, as well as histogram, sharpness and peak guides frames. Swiping up or down will show or hide the HUD, and a simple tap on the screen selects the area for autofocus. Users can record in 16:9 or vertical format by simply switching to 16:9 by holding the phone vertically. The recording tab allows you to control the video resolution and recording format, including space-saving H.264 and H.265. Professional monitoring tools include zebra settings for checking exposure, focus assist and frame guides, as well as controlling audio options with VU or PPM audio meters.

There are also tabs for managing media, including uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, chat, and accessing advanced menus. Users can also record directly to Blackmagic Cloud in industry-standard files up to 8K, allowing them to collaborate on DaVinci Resolve projects with editors from anywhere in the world. The built-in chat workspace allows Blackmagic Cloud project members to talk about photos and quickly share creative ideas, all without leaving the app. Users can quickly message editors, assistants, colorists or visual effects artists to discuss shot selections or receive updates on a project. Each participant in this project can see their message and respond immediately, so they stay connected with other project members without having to leave the app and miss a critical shot.

Users can also record on their phone and transfer the recordings to their computer to free up valuable space on their phone, then share them with other users around the world. If they log in to Blackmagic Cloud and select a DaVinci Resolve project before recording, each recording will be automatically uploaded and synced to all members of that project. The Blackmagic Camera app for Android is now available for free download from Google Play. For more information, visit www.blackmagicdesign.com/au.
