10 sectors where artificial intelligence will add – not eliminate – jobs

Amidst all the fuss about A, I. eliminating jobs – tens of millions around the world, so the mad panic goes – lies the simple truth that A, I. will have three main impacts on jobs:

1. Yes, some jobs will be eliminated. Disruptive technologies always work this way. In fact, these disruptions are the first and most disruptive. A remarkable understanding of the obvious, isn’t it?

2. Although it will seem that some jobs will disappear, in reality they will be transferred from one sector to another. Analysts will be more in demand in the real estate industry and less in demand in the routine aspects of warehousing. Changing jobs may harm individuals, but on a macro scale it is a net gain.

3. AI job creation has already begun – and is growing exponentially. Seven years ago, I expected that by 2025, 25% of jobs would be positions that did not exist then. I was a bit hyperbolic, but as it turns out, not that much. At the forefront of this line are machine learning engineers, natural language processing specialists, artificial intelligence ethicists, bias testers, autonomous vehicle engineers, and augmented reality creators. Jobs like supply chain analysts and sports metrics specialists will multiply as these opportunities spread.

Its network is that, as with all previous significant changes in civilization – the personal computer comes to mind – millions of new jobs were created as a result. It will be the same with AI, but much bigger.

Large increase in the number of jobs expected

Here are 10 areas where you can not only expect to see job creation, but you can bet on it:

Healthcare

AI can improve medical diagnosis, personalized treatment plans, drug discovery, and telemedicine (although I see the downsides to this). Entirely new job categories will emerge, leading to an increased demand for new types of healthcare workers.

Education

AI-powered adaptive learning platforms, virtual tutors, and personalized learning experiences will require a new mindset from educators, instructional designers, and AI trainers. It will also facilitate education for one billion people around the world, which will reduce poverty and disease.

Cybersecurity

It’s obvious, right? As cyber threats become more sophisticated, we will have no choice but to adopt a “fight fire with fire” approach. There will be an increasing and urgent need for cybersecurity experts who can develop AI-based security solutions, analyze threats and manage security infrastructure. An increase in this area will be reminiscent of the nuclear proliferation between the US and the USSR in the 1950s and 1960s.

Finances

AI-based algorithms are improving fraud detection, risk assessment, algorithmic trading and customer service in banking and finance, leading to increased demand for data scientists, financial analysts and AI engineers.

Computer design and production.

Who needs people to develop computers when computers can do it all themselves? Think about this for a few seconds and it will become clear as day, especially as quantum computing becomes so powerful. But here’s the good news. The demand for algorithm creators will be huge.

Agriculture, especially vertical farming

When you can multiply your crops, limited only by the number of levels you can increase, it’s an easy mental step to understand the role of AI. By managing hydroponics, AI improves crop monitoring and overall agricultural management.

Energy

Artificial intelligence improves energy efficiency, facilitates predictive maintenance and seeks alternative sources of renewable energy. Sustainability is the big winner here.

Production

You don’t need to look further than the automotive industry to see how AI-powered automation is improving productivity, quality control, predictive maintenance and supply chain management. In production. There are plenty of job opportunities for robotics engineers and AI specialists.

Transport

Air, sea and land. All this will require a large number of engineers, not to mention the need to perceive and measure quality and maintenance in a new way.

Legal services

AI is improving legal research and contract analysis, which will lead to increased demand for legal analysts, AI developers and legal consultants.

While AI will lead to some job losses and displacement in some sectors, it will also create many more new ones. It’s already happening.
