Prime Minister Dr. Drew and Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs discuss joint advances in healthcare, renewable energy and technology

Taipei, Taiwan – The Prime Minister, The Honorable Dr. Terrance Drew and his delegation met with HE Dr. Chia-lung Lin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), to discuss various areas of cooperation between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan) at their meeting on 24 June 2024.

Discussions covered several key topics, including the development of a smart hospital in St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan’s ability to provide AI development capabilities. They also explored the options available to St. Patrick’s Day citizens. Kitts and Nevis, highlighting the potential of ICT integration in healthcare. Prime Minister Drew emphasized that this initiative has the potential to become a flagship system in the Caribbean, bringing enormous benefits to the region.

“Taiwan has contributed significantly to technological progress in the Caribbean,” said Prime Minister Drew. “As our Health City grows, we anticipate incorporating elements from Taiwan to make our mark on the project and provide continued support to our health care sector.”

Minister Lin expressed Taiwan’s commitment to continue discussions on how best to help St. Kitts and Nevis in strengthening the health sector and improving the quality of services. The conversation also touched on the digital ID card project that the Federation is currently working on, in which Taiwan plays a key role. This project aims to create a single service center by working with various ministries to collect the necessary data.

In addition, the two sides discussed specialized training in Taiwan that would benefit citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as the Taiwanese community. The potential of searching for renewable energy and the importance of digital transformation were also highlighted.

Minister Lin declared Taiwan’s commitment to help St. Kitts and Nevis in improving digital transformation systems. The focus on energy and health care is expected to bring significant changes to the federation.

Prime Minister Drew concluded: “Improvements in energy and healthcare, backed by Taiwan’s technological expertise, will significantly transform St. Kitts and Nevis, bringing long-term benefits to our citizens.”

The meeting was followed by a dinner in honor of Prime Minister Drew and Mrs. Diania Prince-Drew.
