Apple releases iOS 18 developer beta 2 with iPhone mirroring and additional features

Apple released iOS 18 Developer Beta 2 on Monday, hours after Apple revealed that not all of the version’s features would be available in the European Union (EU). The next generation of the iPhone operating system was first unveiled at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10 and has since been made available to registered developers via iOS 18 Developer Beta 1. The first beta update introduced several features to the iPhone new features, such as allowing users to hide the names of applications, folders and widgets on the home screen and enabling dark mode for custom application icons. With the latest update, Apple has added even more features to the iPhone.

iOS 18 Developer Beta 2 Features

In iOS 18 developer beta 2, Apple is rolling out the iPhone mirroring feature. This feature was showcased during the WWDC 2024 keynote and allows users to mirror their iPhone to their Mac. They can receive calls and notifications, control apps, and transfer files between both devices with simple drag and drop. This feature is activated when iPhone is paired with a Mac running macOS Sequoia beta 2.

Moreover, the update also adds a new toggle RCS News in iPhone settings. However, the feature is not said to be activated yet and is only appearing for users in the US whose carrier supports RCS Messaging, such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

While the iOS 18 Beta 1 developer added dark mode to iPhone home screen icons, the latest update adds a new dark-themed icon for the App Store. Users can now darken their wallpapers with the new wallpaper dim option. Another noteworthy feature is the added support for compliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). It provides support for alternative app stores and also allows users to download apps directly from websites.

Other features introduced in iOS 18 Developer Beta 2 include a new widget for connected cards in the Wallet app, + icon in the Passwords app to quickly save new entries, and improved power button information in the Control Center.

In addition to iOS 18, Apple has also released developer beta updates for macOS, iPadOS, VisionOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
