A Northern Kentucky woman who admitted in court to using racial slurs and assaulting another student in a University of Kentucky dorm was sentenced Thursday, according to WKYT.

Sophia Rosing, 23, of Fort Mitchell, Ky., pleaded guilty Aug. 12 to four misdemeanor counts of assault, as well as disorderly conduct and public intoxication, the county’s Commonwealth’s Attorney said of Fayette, Kimberly Baird. She was banned from the University of Kentucky campus.

In exchange for Rosing’s plea, prosecutors agreed to reduce a felony assault on a police officer to a misdemeanor.

Rosing was sentenced to 12 months in prison, 100 hours of community service and a $25 fine, WYKY reported.

Rosing’s charges stem from a November 6, 2022, racist tirade and assault of a Black student. It started when Rosing was arrested after a confrontation at Boyd Hall.

According to a citation from the University of Kentucky Police Department, a police officer went to the residence after receiving a report that a woman had assaulted staff members.

The affair was revealed to the general public after videos were posted online. It shows a woman, whom authorities identify as Rosing, struggling with the front desk clerk and later with police. The video also shows her repeatedly using racial slurs.

Rosing was arrested that night and was subsequently permanently banned from campus. British President Eli Capilouoto announced on social media that she would not be allowed to re-enroll at university.

Fred Peters, Rosing’s attorney, said the plea followed mediation between Rosing and the victims. As part of the mediation, the victims also had the opportunity to confront Rosing about what happened, Baird said, adding that the victims were ultimately supportive of Rosing pleading guilty.
