Motorola introduces Moto Tag with UWB chip for precise location tracking | Gadgets

Motorola is entering the niche segment of wireless tracking devices with the launch of Moto Tag. The Bluetooth tracker is compatible with Android devices that use the Google Find My Device network and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for precise tracking. With a circular design reminiscent of the Apple AirTag, Moto Tag can be used to track valuable items such as wallet, keys, luggage and more.

Motorola announced that Moto Tag will be available in select markets in the coming months. While the company hasn’t commented on its availability in the Indian market, it may come to the region soon.

Tag Moto: Details

While Moto Tag uses the Google Find My Device network, which is essentially a network of Android devices for locating lost items, the Tag also uses the Ultra Wideband feature on supported Android smartphones to enable precise tracking. The Find My Device network enables long-distance tracking, while UWB support allows users to see how close they are to a tag.

Moto Tag is equipped with a multi-function button. In addition to initiating the pairing process with your smartphone, the button allows for greater functionality. A single press of the button rings a connected smartphone, making it easier for the user to find a lost device. Additionally, Tag can be used as a remote capture button to click photos on your smartphone. The tag is also IP67 rated for water and dust resistance. Motorola said the Moto Tag can withstand submersion to a depth of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Additionally, the company claimed that one battery would last one year.

For privacy reasons, Moto Tag is said to provide end-to-end encryption of users’ location data, allowing the owner to only check their location via the Find My Device app. Moto Tag is also compatible with the “Automatic Unknown Tracker Alerts” feature that works on Android and iOS, which allows the user to manually scan to see if an unwanted tag is following them.
