Thidade Eiamsai, Deputy Governor for Power Development and Renewable Energy at EGAT, announced progress on the 140 MW hydro-floating solar power project at Srinagarind Dam. The project integrates solar energy with hydropower from the existing dam, ensuring stable and efficient power generation with minimal environmental impact. This initiative is in line with Thailand’s goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065 through effective carbon offset mechanisms. The project is expected to begin commercial operations by 2026.

This new venture follows the successful operations of the 45 MW Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid project at the Sirindhorn Dam and the 24 MW project at the Ubol Ratana Dam. According to the Energy Development Plan (PDP2018 version 1), EGAT plans to implement similar projects at nine dams, the total capacity of which will be 2,725 MW.

EGAT has started the sale of tender documents for the Srinagarind dam project, which will be available for purchase until July 3, 2024. The bids will be opened on August 14, 2024.
