WVDNR updates hunting regulations for 24-25 season

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTAP) – The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) has announced updated hunting regulations for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys and black bears. It will come into force on July 1.

“With world-class deer hunting seasons underway in West Virginia and other opportunities to hunt small and large game, hunters have plenty to be excited about this fall, and we want to encourage everyone to be aware of these important changes and plan accordingly.” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion.

Some notable changes include:

  • Antlerless deer and open county season dates have changed (see pages 15-20).
  • Fall wild turkey and open county season dates have changed (see page 44).
  • The season and county dates for black bear hunting have changed (see page 41).
  • The annual bag limit for antlered deer for all regular deer seasons combined is two, except for the three antlered deer that Class XS license holders may take in the West Virginia CWD protected area.
  • Jefferson County already has regulations in place regarding the transportation of deer carcasses.
  • Night coyote hunting is permitted only on private land with the written consent of the private landowner from September 1 to December 31.
