Infinix GT Book Review: Affordable Gaming Laptop

Infinix produces several affordable products, ranging from smartphones to laptops and TVs. Naturally, when the company contacted us to review their affordable gaming laptop, I was very interested. The Infinix GT Book is the company’s first gaming laptop that offers a lot for its price. The base model comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, which is not common in this price range. The laptop also has a large 16-inch display, RGB lighting and a unique design.

Is the Infinix GT Book a good gaming laptop to start with? Is it worth the money and can you play some serious games on it? These are just some of the questions I will answer in my review. Read on to find out.

Infinix GT Book Price in India

Infinix GT Book is available in India in three CPU+GPU variants. The entry-level model that Infinix sent us for review is priced at Rs. 59,990 and is equipped with a 12th generation Intel Core i5 12450H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card.

The laptop uses aluminum in the top and bottom plates

There is also a variant with 13th Gen Intel Core i5 13420H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 graphics card, which is priced at Rs. 79,990. Finally, you can have the 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13900H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 for Rs. 99,990.

Infinix sells the laptop in two colors: Mecha Gray and Mecha Silver. In the box you will receive the laptop itself, some documents and a powerful 210 W charging brick. The company is also providing a free set of accessories for a limited time. The set includes an RGB gaming mouse, RGB headphones and an RGB mouse pad.

The GT Gaming accessory pack is said to be worth Rs. 8999, but I didn’t have that impression

If you don’t receive it, don’t be sad because the quality of the headphones and mouse pad is not very good. However, the mouse isn’t too bad and works well.

Infinix GT Book Review: Design and Exposition

The new Infinix gaming laptop feels good in your hand. It has an aluminum top plate and base, and the middle frame is made of plastic. The lid and bottom of the laptop are not completely bent. The area around the keyboard didn’t show any flex either. On the lid, you’ll find a graphic that Infinix calls the Cyber Mecha design and Infinix GT branding.

The bottom panel has an orange grille for the intake and speaker openings. It also has curved edges. There is also an RGB strip on the back of the laptop, where the ventilation holes are. I liked the design of the back panel. There is a single LED on the front to indicate sleep/wake states. The laptop’s hinges feel solid, and the lid is easy to open with one hand. The laptop weighs 1.99 kg and is 19.9 mm at its thickest point.

The laptop has a colorful grille at the bottom that looks quite nice

Infinix has provided a ton of ports on the GT Book. On the left side, you’ll find HDMI 2.0, USB Type-A, and USB Type-C. The charging port is also on the left edge. Moving to the right, you’ll find USB Type-C, USB Type-A, a 3.5mm headphone port, and an SD card reader.

Overall, the laptop has a nice aesthetic that doesn’t scream “gamer.” Even if you’re not a gamer, there’s a good chance you’ll still like this design.

The 16-inch laptop panel has an anti-reflective coating

Opening the lid reveals a large 16-inch anti-glare display with thin bezels. The panel offers Full HD resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio and adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz. It claims to deliver 300 nits of brightness and covers 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut. The laptop has a nice display, and I love its anti-glare coating. It’s bright enough indoors and I enjoy watching content on the screen. However, the display does not offer fast response times, which is quite obvious when gaming. If you are someone who notices motion blur, then you probably won’t enjoy gaming on Infinix GT Book.

Infinix GT Book Review: Keyboard, Touchpad, Speakers and Webcam

The Infinix GT Book comes with a full-size chiclet keyboard with 4-zone RGB. The keys take some getting used to, but provide decent travel and feedback. The RGB lighting is not very bright, but it does the job at night. You get 4-zone personalization that can be controlled via the Control Center app. The WASD keys are accented, and in the upper right corner there are three dedicated keys for the three available performance modes.

The keyboard offers 4-zone RGB customization, but the lighting is not very bright

Next up is the touchpad. You get a decent touchpad with a smooth surface and decent click feedback. It also supports multi-touch gestures and they work well. I have no complaints here. The Infinix GT Book comes with two bottom-firing speakers placed on either side. The speakers are loud and have some bass, however, at full volume they can start to tear up when listening to music. The sound quality is good while watching movies and playing games with good stereo separation. It also helps that the DTS app is enabled by default.

You get a full HD webcam on the laptop, which works well in bright light. The camera also offers good night vision, as long as there is plenty of light. In low light conditions, there is a lot of noise and the image is not very clear. The audio from the two microphones is clear and crisp.

Infinix GT Book Review: Specifications and Software

The laptop is available in three different configurations, which I mentioned at the beginning. The flagship Infinix GT Book model can be equipped with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM with a frequency of 6400 MHz, while the entry-level and mid-range variants will receive 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM with a frequency of 5200 MHz. The top-end variant will also get 1TB of PCIE 4.0 storage, while the other two will get a maximum of 512GB. The RAM cannot be expanded, but the SSD drive can be replaced with a larger one. Infinix has also offered Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 on the GT Book gaming laptop.

Control Center allows you to choose between three preset performance modes

In terms of software, the laptop runs Windows 11 Home out of the box and has almost no additional pre-installed applications. You get a mouse driver app that lets you configure the included mouse if you’re lucky enough to get a free pack with your purchase. The laptop comes with Infinix Control Center, which allows you to choose between three performance modes, customize the RGB lighting of the keyboard and backbar, and offers a MUX switch.

Infinix GT Book Review: Performance and Gaming

Okay, now let’s talk about performance. Infinix sent us the base version for review, which has a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12450H processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM. The GPU can provide up to 80W TGP when the laptop is connected and set to the Gaming profile in the Control Center application. In Performance mode, the GPU offers 65W TGP and 30W TGP in Office mode. I ran some benchmarks and played a few games on the laptop to see how it performed.

First, I’ll list some synthetic benchmark results. In Geekbench in Gaming mode, the laptop scored 2095 points in single-core tests and 8874 in multi-core tests. Running the PCMark 10 benchmark on the laptop resulted in an overall score of 5,817 points. I also ran the Steel Nomad 3DMark benchmark; the laptop scored 1086 points. The included 512GB SSD scored well in the CrystalDiskMark storage test.

Hogwarts Legacy ran quite well in full settings

When it comes to gaming, the laptop offers very good performance at a low price. I played Far Cry 6 and Hogwarts Legacy on the Infinix GT Book and got quite good frame rates. In Far Cry 6, with the resolution set to Full HD and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, Ultra quality graphics and vertical synchronization enabled, the laptop generated an average of 54 fps. While playing Hogwarts Legacy, the laptop was able to offer an average frame rate of around 70 with Full HD resolution and graphics set to Ultra.

With regular use for productivity and photo editing, I didn’t notice any lag or stutter. The 120 Hz display also ensures smooth scrolling of web pages.

The laptop comes with a dual-fan and dual heatpipe cooling system that works quite well. However, in gaming mode, the fan is quite noisy. I also noticed that a half-hour gaming session causes the upper left area near the touchpad to become quite warm. It was quite uncomfortable, especially since the hand is located exactly in this place. I didn’t notice any excessive heating during normal use.

Infinix GT Book Review: Battery Life

The battery life of the Infinix GT Book is what you would expect from a gaming laptop. Infinix has included a 70 Wh battery in the laptop. In office mode, the laptop lasted for about 4 to 5 hours of web browsing, YouTube, and some streaming. If you want to play on battery, you can expect around 1 to 2 hours of use, depending on the title. I have about 1 hour of Far Cry 6 playing on Ultra settings, i.e. in Gaming mode. However, on battery, GPU power consumption is limited to 30W, which doesn’t matter what mode you use.

Charging the laptop is also not impressive. It took over 2 hours to get from about 9 percent to 100 using the provided 210W charger.

Infinix GT Book Review: Verdict

With a starting price of Rs. 59,990 and despite its aging hardware, the Infinix GT Book is an excellent option for those on a budget. Even the basic model offers good performance in most situations, including gaming. The display is good despite the slow response time, the build quality is very good, you get a decent keyboard and touchpad, and there’s no bloat. This is a great first gaming laptop from Infinix.
