Stolen handgun and drugs seized during search of Chico’s apartment; arrests made

On Tuesday, agents with the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force and the Butte County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at 1429 West 7th Street, Unit B, in Chico.

During the operation, officers arrested 45-year-old Nathan William Rooney and 25-year-old Mary Anne Shelton.

Agents seized several items during the search, including a loaded handgun reported stolen from Arizona, ammunition, suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, MDMA and DMT. BINTF said the gun’s muzzle was painted orange to make it look like a simulated or less lethal weapon.

Ultimately, officers arrested Rooney and transported him to the Butte County Jail where he was booked on charges of possession of a loaded firearm while possessing controlled substances, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Likewise, Shelton was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Officers said additional charges may be filed pending further forensic analysis.
