DVIDS – News – Huntsville Center Hosts Antitrust Training

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Support Center in Huntsville hosted Department of Justice attorneys who conducted training on antitrust crimes in public procurement.

Vijay Rao and Marc Hedrich, both Justice Department attorneys, led a training session for more than 250 contractors, lawyers and other professionals at the Huntsville Center to discuss the intricacies of antitrust laws and regulations.

Christopher Weisenberger, Huntsville Center Assistant Counseling Center Procurement Fraud Counselor, began the training session with an important reminder to employees.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about antitrust crimes and fraud. “It’s not just my job as a public procurement fraud advisor, but it’s everyone’s responsibility to say something if they see something,” he said.

The training included detecting and reporting mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, bribery and money laundering.

The training used old case studies to show participants real examples and demonstrate the importance of reporting to the appropriate authorities.

“As billions of dollars are spent on federal programs, it is critical to ensure that companies use these funds correctly,” Rao said.

“If a crime affects the free market, we need to know about it.”
