Tinubu asks Senate to approve new appointments

ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The President, in one of his letters read during the plenary session on Thursday, urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nomination of Dr. Olatunji Bello as Director-General/Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

President Tinubu also submitted the names of three candidates for consideration and confirmation of nominations for the positions of Chairman, Secretary and Member of the Police Services Commission (PSC) respectively.

The nominees are respectively retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hashim Argungu (Chairman), Chief Onyema Uche (Secretary) and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Member) of the PSC.

The letters were read out in the chamber during the plenary session by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Bello’s nomination was then referred to the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, while the nominations of Argungu, Uche and Lankano were referred to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs for further legislative work.

The committees are to report to the Senate within a week.

Minimum Wage: Femi Gbajabiamila Reveals Tinubu’s Extraordinary Plan

President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that his main plans include an unusual address at the 142nd National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

He said Tinubu would discuss the new national minimum wage with state governors at the meeting.

Gives notice that the NEC is established by the provisions of section 153(1) and paragraphs 18 and 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule to the Constitution Act 1999 (as amended).

It consists of 36 state governors, the president of the Central Bank and other co-opted government officials.

The Council, chaired by the Vice President, shall meet monthly to discharge its mandate to advise the President on the economic affairs of the Federation, particularly on measures necessary to coordinate the economic planning efforts or economic programmes of the various Governments of the Federation.

Gbajabiamila, however, revealed that the president planned to attend the meeting due to the importance of the minimum wage bill.
