Farm groups back San Francisco’s challenge to EPA water rule

Several agricultural groups support the city of San Francisco, saying the EPA’s water quality standards are unreasonable and could expose the city to future litigation.

Groups like the National Pork Producers Council say the EPA’s policies have open standards and the permitting process could put every farmer in the country at risk if they were adopted elsewhere. The Bay Area is currently home to over 2 million acres of farmland.

The American Farm Bureau is also joining the fight, saying EPA policies should clearly spell out what permittees must do to comply.
