AL has no right to engage in politics; it should be banned: LDP

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has called for the Awami League (AL) to be banned as a political party as it has no right to play politics after its role against 18 million people of the country during the July-August demonstrations.

“Why shouldn’t the Awami League be banned! We said it again today, the Awami League should be banned because they waged war against 18 million people. They have no right to do politics,” LDP Chairman Dr Col (retd) Oli Ahmad told reporters. after having a dialogue with the Principal Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, today (October 19).

Oli, a former communications minister, said the Awami League was unfairly using the police and administration to stay in power.

The LPD submitted 23 proposals to the senior advisor today, including a demand for free and fair elections and addressed the issue of rising prices of basic necessities.

This is the second round of dialogues in the current phase, which began on October 5 with the participation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, CPB and some other major parties.

Fifteen political parties, including Gono Forum, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Andaleeve), are among the parties invited to join today’s dialogue.
