J&K government engages real estate agents in draft development rights and land pooling policy

Srinagar, June 29:The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken a significant step towards improving urban development by formulating the draft Jammu and Kashmir Policy on Grant and Utilization of Transferable Development Rights, 2024 and the draft Jammu and Kashmir Land Pooling Policy, 2024, officials said.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development, as part of its inclusive policy-making process, invited the public to submit objections and suggestions, a spokesperson said.

In support of this initiative, Secretary Commissioner, Department of Housing and Urban Development convened meetings with real estate stakeholders of Kashmir and Jammu on 26th and 29th June, 2024 at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar and Jammu.

These meetings were aimed at gathering valuable insights and opinions from realtors in Jammu and Kashmir on the proposed policies, the spokesperson said in a handout.

A comprehensive presentation of the draft Policy on the Allocation and Use of Transferable Development Rights and the draft Land Pooling Policy was given, detailing the key features and benefits of these policies (read the press release).

The presentation emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a sustainable development framework that takes into account the needs of all stakeholders.

After the presentation, real estate agents were asked to submit comments and suggestions.

Participants actively shared their perspectives, offering constructive feedback and proposing improvements to make the policy more effective. The discussions were characterized by a spirit of cooperation, with real estate agents expressing appreciation for the government’s inclusive approach.

Both meetings ended positively, and the Commissioner’s Secretary thanked the real estate agents for their participation and valuable comments. Feedback collected during these sessions will be carefully reviewed and incorporated into the finalization of the policy.

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir remains committed to promoting a transparent and participatory policy-making process, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard and taken into account, the note added.

The completed policies are expected to pave the way for more organized and sustainable urban development in the region.
